Dinosaur Train Under the Sea Review and Giveaway CLOSED

On Friday, August 20, PBS KIDS® premiered Dinosaur Train Under the Sea, a new one-hour television special from the hit CGI-animated preschool series DINOSAUR TRAIN™ from The Jim Henson Company. Children of all ages can join Buddy and the entire Pteranodon family aboard the Dinosaur Train as they embark on their first underwater adventure exploring the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic oceans to learn about new aquatic creatures. The new special episode will premiere on the popular PBS KIDS® preschool destination, an educational, hosted two-hour morning television block. (Please check local listings).
And, if you think the idea of dinosaurs living ‘under the sea’ is far-fetched, check out this recent story out of Australia, where scientists discovered bizarre prehistoric sea life hundreds of kilometers below the Great Barrier Reef.  Ancient sharks, giant oil fish, swarms of crustaceans and a primitive shell-dwelling squid species called the Nautilus were among the astonishing life captured by remote controlled cameras at Osprey Reef.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100716/ts_afp/australiaenvironmentcoralreef

I love the Dinosaur Train series.  It's cute and fun but also educational.  I think there are many great educational cartoons for kids.  In fact I'm pretty sure my kids limited Spanish vocabulary comes exclusively from TV.  But Dinosaur Train, is a different approach to me.  Because its geared around a specific theme it takes and constantly builds on a topic (dinosaurs) and teaches kids more with each episode.  I know some parents can get frustrated when they kids get stuck on a subject and seem to become a little obsessed.  But in our house, I've really enjoyed just jumping right in with my kids and embracing that style of learning.  When my kids are fascinated with something, be is bees (yes my oldest wanted to be the worlds youngest bee expert at one point) or baseball or whatever.  We fully immerse ourselves in everything we can on the subject.  I love taking their enthusiasm for whatever it may be for that moment and exploring it to the fullest.  Sometimes these phases can pass quicker than the winds but sometimes they find something they truly connect with.  So I love that Dinosaur Train takes this same approach and hooks up with what seems to be an innate love of dinosaurs in kids and stretches their minds with it.  I know that my kids ability to tell dinosaurs apart by name may never do them any good in adulthood but the learning they are doing will.  Learning to learn and learning to explore something they love, will certainly be important skills for the rest of their lives.  And the producers of Dinosaur Train gets two thumbs up from this mom and a big giant RAWR from her two year old dinosaur lover!

Additionally PBS KIDS and Paramount will release the Dinosaurs Under the Sea on DVD on August 24, which includes eight exciting and whimsical adventures, as well as interactive games, coloring pages, a dinosaur reference guide and information for parents.
