Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

CHICAGO (October 6, 2010) – The talented cast and crew of Disney’s THE LION KING and BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL join together to present CITY OF HOPE: CHICAGO CARES – a concert featuring song, dance, and spoken word. Celebrating the inspiration, awareness, change and new horizons that live performance can achieve, this very special one-time event will be held on Monday, October 25 at 7:00PM at The Royal George Theatre 1641 N. Halsted Street Chicago, IL. Tickets are currently on sale for $40 General Admission and $75 for VIP Seating and a post show reception sponsored by Grey Goose Vodka and Sweet Miss Giving’s Bakery with members of the casts of CITY OF HOPE, BILLY ELLIOT and THE LION KING.

Audience members will enjoy over 12 performances from the Classics, Pop, R&B and Broadway. Additionally, audience members will also have an opportunity to participate in several silent auctions featuring tickets to THE LION KING, as well as several restaurant packages, Broadway Merchandise and “One-of-a-Kind Props” from THE LION KING.

All proceeds will benefit Chicago House and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA).  

Now in its 25th year, Chicago House provides housing and supportive services to men, women, and children living with HIV and AIDS.  Their programs have since expanded to include community case management, substance abuse counseling, HIV prevention, medical adherence, and the Midwest ’s first employment training and placement program specific to people with HIV.  Chicago House now also offers free, anonymous rapid HIV testing.

(BC/EFA) is the nation’s leading industry based HIV/AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization.

ABOUT DISNEY’S THE LION KING

THE LION KING will play Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7:30PM, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8PM, Sunday evening at 6:30PM, Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2PM, and Sunday matinees at 1PM, as well as Tuesday performances on October 26, November 16 and 23 at 7:30PM and a 2PM matinee on Friday, November 26. There will be no performance on Thursday, November 25 in observance of Thanksgiving. Ticket prices start as low as $25. Director Julie Taymor became the first woman in Broadway history to win the Tony® Award for Best Director of a Musical.  Taymor, along with Michael Curry, created hundreds of masks and puppets for THE LION KING.  Choreography is by Garth Fagan, scenic design is by Richard Hudson, costume design is by Julie Taymor and lighting design is by Donald Holder. The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated film and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the screenplay for THE LION KING.  The score features Elton John and Tim Rice's music from the animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice, additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer.

BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Jon Finn and Sally Greene. Angela Morrison and David Furnish are Executive Producers. The production features scenic design by Ian MacNeil, the associate director is Julian Webber, costume design by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting design by Rick Fisher and sound design by Paul Arditti. Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Martin Koch.
