LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago Opens Search for
First-ever MINIMASTER Model Builder
Children ages six to 12 invited to submit videos to win apprenticeship with the Master Model Builder

CHICAGO (March 16, 2011) – LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago is holding a contest to find its first-ever MINIMASTER Model Builder.   The winner will learn LEGO building secrets from a Master Model Builder including:  the techniques that were used in building MINILAND, how a Master Model Builder uses LEGO Digital Designer, how he creates new models for the Model Builder Workshop and how to take a picture and create a LEGO mural.

“Being a Master Model Builder involves a lot more than just creative thinking, though that is a very important part,” said Daniel Morey, Master Model Builder at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago. “Many of the skills I use to do my job are not so different from an architect or a carpenter, and we’re looking to teach these important skills to the winner of our contest.”

Applicants age six to 12 are invited to create a 90-second video telling why they should be selected as the MINIMASTER Model Builder. To enter the contest, children must have permission from their parent or guardian to upload their video entry at www.Facebook.com/LDCChicago.

All videos will be posted in a gallery on LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago’s Facebook page where users can vote for their favorites. The top five videos that receive the most votes will be reviewed by a special panel of judges who will select one grand prize winner.  The grand prize winner will receive eight 30-minute sessions with a Master Model Builder plus a Master LEGO Model Builder session for his or her entire class.

For interested participants that do not have a video camera at home, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago will offer Video Tapings every Tuesday throughout the contest. On March 22, March 29, April 5, April 12 and April 19, children are invited to the Center from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. to have Center staff shoot and upload their video. Entrance is free, but guests must RSVP in advance to minireporter@legolanddiscoverycenter.com.
