Mother's Day Music {Linky}

I found this great little inspiration on Facebook for a Mother's Day song challenge.  Since I LOVE music and Mother's Day is a little tough for me to write about I thought I'd give it a shot.  It is proposed as a song a day type challenge but since I found it late, I'm going to do them all at once.

If you feel inspired to join me and post on your blog please feel free to link up so other's can check it out.  If you don't have a blog, you can post in the comments of mine!

Mother's Day Song Challenge
1. Your Mother's favorite song
I have to admit, I have no clue what my mom's more recent favorite songs were.  She was fairly into music when I was young but really didn't seem to pay much attention to it at all once I was a teen and beyond.  But here's one that was a favorite of her's for a long time.
I will always remember her listening to this on her walkman while mowing the grass and bobbing along.

Let's Hear It For the Boy: Denise Williams

2. A song that reminds you of your Mother
There are many, including the one above but this one reminds me of her because it was a movie and song that we both loved.  I also think it's fitting for her in many ways!!

Wind Beneath My Wings, Bette Midler:

3. A song that your mother and you both loved together
We both loved both of the songs above.  And I'm sure many many more. But of course I'm drawing a blank on anything more current. I do remember having some country and Christian songs we both enjoyed more recently but nothing I can think of...So I'm going with an artist we both loved for a long time.

How Will I Know, Whitney Houston
4. A song that both you and your mother hated together
It makes me crazy that I can't think of a single song.  I'll probably hear one tomorrow of course, but I can't think of any!  I know there are some, probably not a ton because we had pretty varied styles and there was a lot she hated that I liked and vice versa, but there is something.  And it makes me sad that I can't think of even one.

5. A song your mother often sang to you (or dedicated)
My mom didn't sing very much.  She didn't think she had a good voice.  But she DID sing this to me when I was little.  And I sing it to my kids all the time now!

You Are My Sunshine, Anne Murray

6. A song YOU sang or dedicated to your mother.
I can't think of a single song I ever sang to my mom or dedicated to her.
But while I suppose this song also fits in the 'reminds me' of her category.  I think of her every time I hear this song because in her last weeks we sang this song one morning in church and it was the first time I REALLY broke down.  It was if I could hear her singing it to me that morning, convincing me she'd be ok.  So now every time it's done in church, I feel like I'm singing it for her, and am filled with her amazing stength.

I Will Rise, Chris Tomlin

7. A song your mother loved to sing herself
Oh my gosh, I struggled with this.  As I said, my mom wasn't a big singer.  But she had this record (and now I have it) and she would always sign along and then clearly it would get stuck in her head and she would sing it all day long.
I haven't thought about this song in forever but it cracks me up now because I totally do the same thing to my kids when a song gets stuck in my head I will sing it (or usually just one or two lines really) over and over until I've made them all crazy.

Elvira, Oak Ridge Boys
