(A Wordy) Wordless Wednesday, 6/8/11

Baseball season has officially begun for our local little league and Saturday was Timmy's first game.  It was HOT and HUMID and they lost, to the Sox.  But it was still great seeing him in his first real game.  He loved every hot sweaty minute of it and played hard.

took one strike

getting serious
and then he laid of and got 4 balls

taking his base
a great grab and an out! he was thrilled with himself

Then Monday was his second game. It was again CRAZY hot but it was an evening game with a breeze so it wasn't as bad.  However, the officiating was literally some of the worst I've ever seen.  Not only did the strike zone seem to double in size for our pitcher, but the Ump called two full counts for Timmy before finally telling him he had stuck out.  He came off the field with tears in his eyes because he KNEW he'd been wronged.  That happened to more than one of our batters and then he gave at least one of the other teams, at least one extra stike. The end result was a 6-9 loss for our very upset little Cubs.  It's hard to convince them to not let it get to them and that what matters is that they played a great game and likely would have tied it up if not one, if the Ump had even counted right, let alone been far with his strike calls.
But on an up note, Timmy got to play catcher which is one of the two positions he really WANTS to play (along with pitcher).  He did very well for his first time. And of course, he looked great!! Don't believe me?  Check it out!

Game 3 is tonight!

  1. Sometimes the officiating leaves a lot to be desired. So excited for his walk & catch.

We start baseball next week, but my son doesn't start traveling for another year. Then I'll have two boys traveling! Yeowza.

  4. Timmy certainly does look good as a catcher! Sometimes, poor officiating can become a great catalyst for important life lessons. So sad that our kids have to hurt because of bad calls sometimes.

  19. Catcher is a tough position to play. Way to go Timmy! And it sucks when you have an idiot for an ump. Boo!

I can't wait until my kids are old enough to play ball. I played softball as a kid and it was so much fun!
