Gingerbread House Fail!

In case you were, as I was, discouraged by the beautiful gingerbread house photos I shared yesterday (view post here), I hope today will make you feel better about your own attempts to master the gingerbread house.
FYI you really need to use quite a bit of icing to hold the walls together! Like double what you think is enough, than add some more! At least that's what I've found in my completely unprofessional experience!

This isn't mine but it very well could be. The sliding icing is a frequent occurrence in our creations!

There MIGHT be a good reason this one isn't totally perfect! I'm just guessing though!

And lastly, these little houses which I believe are actually made out of graham crackers and not gingerbread aren't horrible at all but for me simply remind me that sometimes...less is more!

  1. Yikes.... those houses are way harder than they look to put together. I bought mine... pre-assembled! GENIUS! All we had to do was decorate... which was still a disaster ;D

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  2. haha! never use the icing they give you - it's just too runny = purchase a can of icing for each kid and let them spray it out - so much easier!!

  3. I bought mine pre-assembled too. It still doesn't look very beautiful, but the kids and I had a lot of fun making it, and that's what matters.

  4. Did you follow all the building codes? Perhaps you had cheap labor. LOL
When I was young, my mother had one that she bought somewhere and she would bring it out every year. I was still beautiful after 10 or 15 years.

  5. This is what my gingerbread houses generally end up like! I still love making them though (from the kits...I'll be darned if I'm baking gingerbread!)

  6. LOVE the one with empty beer bottles strewn around :-D
This reminds me of my first attempt- I made the gingerbread so thick that the roof collapsed. In my panic on Christmas morning I made a cardboard roof and covered it in cotton wool!!! Haha since then I've used an Ikea kit *shhhh*

  7. LOL I imagine that if my family made a gingerbread house, it would probably resemble one of those. ;-)
