Earlier this week I was given the challenge to go to KMart and armed with $30 and my local circular ad, create the best Easter basket I could. My original intention was to create one of the boys baskets. But then I learned of a friend of a friend who's family just lost everything in a house fire. My friend was collecting clothes, diapers and personal items for the family. I decided that while all the items were clearly NEEDED, sometimes its good to get a little something special in these times and this family has a young girl. I thought maybe putting together the basket for her might be a small bright spot amidst the struggles for this young family.
So I set out to create a basket for a young girl I've never met. I know she has special needs and requires a wheelchair and feeding equipment (I was told the wheelchair made it out of the fire but the feeding equipment didn't).
I spent a lot of time roaming the Easter section, partly because there was a ton to choose from and partly because I wasn't sure what this little girls limitations are. In the end I did chose to include some candy, figuring if she's unable to eat it, maybe her mom or someone else might like a treat too.
While I was wandering the aisle, I saw this deal for Bonus Rewards Members! Earn $5 when you spend $30 in the Easter Department. Find out more about Shop Your Way Rewards on Twitter.

I also grabbed a package of festive Easter bubbles. I can't be sure that she can blow bubbles, but I KNOW all kids love to watch bubbles so I'm sure if she isn't able to, someone who loves her will blow them for her to watch and enjoy.
I also grabbed a coloring book and some fun purple rubber ducks! The last thing I had to do was decide on basket to hold it all. I narrowed it down to this fun Tinkerbell bucket or the traditional basket.
I decided to go with the bucket because I thought it would be used more after Easter to hold whatever she might want. Plus, it was too cute to pass up.
You might also notice behind the baskets that I found some sweatshirts on clearance. For $1.99 I can never pass up the chance to grab some for my kids. But I decided to get some for this little girl too. I grabbed them in sized larger than she is now hoping they'll also fit next season. It was a total treat for me to buy pink and glittery things.
Checking out was fast and easy, even though I couldn't find my Rewards card. Thankfully they are able to look up your account easily by your phone number so I still got my rewards for my purchase. I was even handed my $5 gift card on the spot.
Last night I put the basket together and dropped it off to my friend to deliver to the family. I hope they enjoy it.
And don't forget to check out
Oh I know they will! Such cute goodies inside!
