Gaming for Good

Do you have a favorite online game?  Maybe Plants vs Zombies or Bejeweled?  These two happen to be ones I can quickly lose a few hours to.  But could YOU Play for THIRTY hours...straight?  What if it was for charity?

Well, that's exactly what PopCap has challenged two woman to do!!

Laura Rich and Kathleen Henkel will be attempting to play way more than a doctor's prescribed amount of Solitaire Blitz in London and New York respectively. The official name of this new record is the “longest video games marathon playing a card game,” and both women are shooting for 30 straight hours of play from June 26-27.

PopCap will be making a donation to charity:water for each hour played by both women, going up to a minimum of £6,500, or $10,000. Along with its donation, the game developer is encouraging interested parties to make their own pledges through the Solitaire Blitz app on Facebook. All you have to do is search for “Solitaire Blitz,” add the app to your Facebook account, and click on the “Pledge” button to make a donation. You can donate as little as $0.093 per hour; about $2.78 for the full marathon.

PopCap ensures that 100 percent of all proceeds will go to charity:water.  charity: water is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing clean and safe drinking water to the more than 800 million people on the planet who don't have it.

Follow PopCapEvents to keep up with the record attempt.
