Kellogg's "Start Simple, Start Right"

I can't lie we eat a lot of cereal in our house.  I'm not a big fan of cooking in general, but jumping up and cooking first thing in the morning is definitely not in me.  And I also have to confess, I buy a lot of sugary cereals.  I never liked many cereals that didn't include some marshmallows or artificial colors when I was little and I always picked out these things when shopping for my own kids.

Thankfully, they have better taste then I did as they actually love and ask for several of these Kellogg's brands fairly regularly.  This is good because as they are getting older and are having more demanding school days, I can easily see that the sugary options are NOT the way to start a day.

As I work to get our family healthier, I appreciate products such as these Kellogg's cereal that contain simpler ingredients.  And I'm thankful for the excuse to try these products as I discovered that I personally love Raisin Bran and had never even tried it before.

Thanks to these better breakfast options, I can feel more confident in giving my boys cereal for breakfast...even if they do lean in the bowl every now and then and spill milk...EVERYWHERE!  Knowing that they have started their day off with simple grains , vitamin and mineral with out all the sugar and other stuff makes me feel better.  And it makes them function better.

If you have little ones who are little bit more reluctant to give up their colorful marshmallow filled mornings, try some creative ways to induce these Kellogg's brands.  Whether you add your own fruit, my boys love berries and bananas, and giving them a few to choose from and add themselves always makes it more inviting.  You can always mix a little of their old favorite with some of the Kellogg's simple grain cereals. Or surprise them by adding a drop or two of food color before filling the bowl with cereal.  When they add the milk they'll get a colorful surprise.  (Note this may totally backfire with some kids but others will love it.)  And finally, if they really just can't live without their marshmallows, add a few mini marshmallows and be happy with the improvements you ARE making.  (And there are also lots of great recipes online to make your own marshmallows which have few ingredients as well.)

Sometimes old habits are hard to break, but as with everything, take it step by step.  You might even be surprised when they find a new favorite, like I did!

Kellogg's "Start Simple, Start Right

At Kellogg our philosophy is simple: By giving you our best, you can be at your best.
So we start with the goodness of a single grain — Nebraska corn, Louisiana rice, Michigan wheat — and work closely with local farmers and suppliers to understand the ways in which they work. And how we can help them, and they can help us, be even better.
With those simple grains, we create a variety of Kellogg’s cereals, like Kellogg’s Corn Flakes®, Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® and Kellogg’s® All Bran®, that are made with a handful of ingredients, plus vitamins and minerals your body needs.
Then we prepare our cereals in a method similar to what you do in your own kitchen — just on a larger scale.
That way from seed to spoon, field to family, you get our best in every bite.

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Kellogg’s. I received sample products to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item as a thank-you for participating.

  1. I've been to Cereal City twice so I learned very well how natural and wonderful their cereal is. This Michigan girl is a HUGE Kellogg's fan!
