Make Time for a Meal Together with Darden Restaurants This Holiday Season

This holiday season among the hustle and bustle it is important not to forget the real reason for the season.  Sometimes that means taking a break and just refocusing.  One good way to do this is getting together for a family meal.  If you will be hosting a holiday meal give yourself a chance to sit down and be served before the big day.  Grab the family and head out to a favorite restaurant and relax for a bit.  This may even give you a chance to go over plans with your family and how everyone will be expected to help pitch in.

I admit, I won't be hosting Christmas dinner and other than having a mountain of presents to wrap and having to bake a few cookies for the jolly one, I don't have too much left I HAVE to do.  But we still plan to get out this weekend and spend some checking out Christmas lights.  I hope this tour ends with us close to Olive Garden so I can enjoy a nice meal with the family before I stay up into the wee hours wrapping gifts.  If only I could find the gift card I KNOW I already have...

If you're looking for something special to buy ME for Christmas, I can always use another Darden gift card.  Two of my favorite restaurants are part of the Darden group.  And I've never been to the others as I'm not aware of any of them near by but based on my love of Olive Garden and Red Lobster I would guess that I'd love them too.  I love getting gift cards as gifts, since they are always the right size and never have to be returned.  I especially love restaurant gift cards because it means I can take the family out to dinner without feeling guilty.  I don't think there is anything better than the gift of guilt free family time!

Which of the Darden restaurants is YOUR favorite?

Join Me for a #Kalahari Twitter Party Saturday at 12:30pm CST

I can't to wake the boys up before the crack of dawn this Saturday to surprise them with a trip to the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.  We've stayed at several other similar resorts over the years but have never been to Kalahari but have heard only wonderful things about it so I'm just as excited as I'm sure the boys will be.

I mean just LOOK at this indoor water park.  How could you NOT have fun here?

And as I was researching the resort for our trip I was surprised to learn that they also have an indoor Theme Park. It looks like so much fun and even includes an indoor Ferris Wheel!

Kalahari Resorts in the Dells includes fun and exciting rides for both your tiny tots and older kids.
  • Their indoor waterpark recently installed a state-of-the-art Kids Play Zone named Tiko’s Watering Hole. Catered specifically for your tiny tots, this 5,000-square-foot, interactive play area features activities, slides and a 200-foot-long lazy river made just for them.
  • The indoor waterpark also features America’s first indoor super loop slides. All three slides present a near 60 foot drop, and the Super Loop Sahara Sidewinder slides takes guests on a 250-plus foot journey from high above the roof of the waterpark to the water below.
  • Our Indoor Theme Park has over 100,000 square feet of family fun with a ton of indoor attractions and activities.
  •  Kalahari Resort in the Dells uses rooftop solar panels, which heat more than 50 percent of the hot water for the resort’s facilities. While the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky features a Texlon roof, an "intelligent" roof system that allows natural light in to help heat America’s largest indoor waterpark, while also providing the ability to grow real tropical foliage.
I know you're saying to yourself, man she's lucky, how can I get some of her luck. Right? Well, don't worry, I'll be sharing details of how you you can win a 1-night stay in Hut or Desert Style Room* and Complimentary Indoor Theme Park Passes during a Live Twitter Party during our stay.  Follow me @LisaNoel03 and @KalahariResorts on Twitter or the hashtag #Kalahari and join the party on Saturday December 1, 2012 at 12:30pm CST to learn how you can win!!!

I can't tell you how many times I've been asked...."You're going to Disney On Ice? But you have all boys...?"
Well, yes we DO go to Disney on Ice and yes, they are correct I only have boys.  Usually these people have never actually been to a Disney On Ice production, because they'd understand.  And mind you one year one of the shows had "Princess" in the title so they boys were apprehensive. But I asked them to go for me, because I AM a girl and I like girly things once in awhile too but that show ended up being a great one that they loved too because with princesses, come princes and in typical Disney fashion there's usually action and adventure to go along with the love and romance.
This year, Treasure Trove is no exception.  The show started with the Incredibles getting people up and moving, this was something I don't remember them doing in any other show we've seen and was cool!  Then there was Alice in Wonderland. There was Aladdin and a super cool ginormous elephant. Oh and of course the Genie!  Peter Pan and Captain Hook kept the boys glued to the edge of their seats before intermission.  And Lion King and Little Mermaid had me singing along and taking in some breathtaking costume design.  And the show finished with some of the new princesses including Rapunzel and Tiana.
Overall another great show that is perfect for ANY Disney fan, boy or girl, young or old!!!

Check out the Ticketmaster Page  for more venue locations for Disney On Ice presents Treasure Trove!

Our Day At Alder Planetarium in Chicago @adlerskywatch #WTTU2012

After our adventures downtown on Saturday (read post here), we woke early Sunday to head to Adler Planetarium for a full day of fun.  Of course I got us there a little early thinking they opened at 9 but they didn't open until 9:30am.  But that just gave us some time to enjoy the beautiful museum campus area for a little bit.

It's a really great view of the skyline but away from all the hustle and bustle (especially at that hour of the morning.)

Once we did get in we got tickets to two shows.  We started with One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure which features Big Bird and Elmo (hence the stuffed guys that were sent over for Bryan.) I thought this would be a good start (partly because that's when it runs) but also because I thought it would get Bryan, who might be the hardest sell to be immediately engaged.   And also, the newest show Welcome to the Universe. I have to admit that I loved the Big Bird show just as much as Bryan and I probably learned just as much too.  I'm not nearly as into space as the older boys are.  THEY loved Welcome to the Universe and all the other shows we ended up watching.  The thing I was most struck by in Welcome to the Universe was the visualization of how truly small we are.  Its something I've heard and known for a long time but as you 'travel' through the universe visually it really hits home how truly tiny we are in the grand scheme of things.
But mostly I just loved watching the boys soak it all in.  This was a great place for them to be as they are very into science in general.  But Timmy has been truly in love with all things space for some time now.  I'm pretty sure he could spend several more days here reading and learning.

In addition to the many fabulous shows that run throughout the day in several different theaters there are a ton of exhibits.  Some with fun hands on features for everyone.  Bryan especially loved the one that showed how we see light through telescopes and the delay that it causes.  So he looked into a 'telescope' and then saw his image delayed a few seconds.  He MAY be a bit of a ham.

Picture of the boys in the theater where One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure played. (No photos or filming DURING the shows.)

After a few shows we took a break and played in the Planet Explorers area.

Here's Bryan launching a shuttle.

Need to go?  Have a seat on the space potty!  Although Bryan loved this area for kids, so did the older boys, I just couldn't usually catch them quick enough to snap a photo.
After a snack in the cafe, we headed to see 3d Sun.

We literally spent the entire day at Adler Planetarium and didn't see all the shows or exhibits.  If you have a space lover on your hands, I highly recommend checking it out.  The staff were all fabulous and the boys had a great time WHILE learning!!

Here's a little more info on the first two shows we enjoyed.  But visit Adler Planetarium online for details on all the shows, exhibits and special events.

Windy City Circus at Navy Pier Feb. 17-26, 2012

Windy City Circus, an all-new locally produced professional circus featuring jaw-dropping circus acts and hilarious characters from around the world, will make its debut inside Navy Pier’s Festival Hall, 600 E. Grand Avenue, Feb. 17-26, 2012. This exciting “circus with a purpose” will have a strong hometown feel, featuring cameo appearances by an assortment of famous and infamous Chicago area historic figures. 80% of net ticket sale proceeds will go to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana and the Special Olympics Chicago and co-sponsor Special Children’s Charities.

Windy City Circus is proud to announce its new partnership with the City of Chicago to celebrate the city’s 175th birthday.  This will include a special salute during every performance of the circus throughout its 10 day run.  Further details will be announced at a later date.

David Maas is the Big Top producer and founder of Windy City Circus, and also will serve as master of ceremonies.  A renowned magician and the star of many American and international circuses, Maas is best known as the co-star of the “World Renowned David & Dania Quick Change,” in which he and Moscow Circus veteran Dania Kaseeva Maas perform an astonishing series of split-second costume changes, an act that has been featured on such programs as “America’s Got Talent” and “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” and also has wowed stage and arena audiences world-wide.

At Navy Pier, a colorful circus scene will be designed inside Festival Hall, and Windy City Circus audiences will sit within 50 feet of the performance ring.  In addition to David and Dania’s “Quick Change,” Windy City Circus will feature an internationally acclaimed roster of circus stars, including aerial and trapeze artists, clowns, jugglers and animal acts.

Among those performing in the Windy City Circus are:

·         Acrobat and juggler Vladik was born into a circus family and began his training at an early age. Taking the stage for the first time at age nine, he has since performed in more than 30 countries in various circuses including “Lido de Paris” in Paris, “Le Cabaret” in Monte Carlo, and Cirque du Soleil’s “Dralion.” He has also won numerous awards including the gold medal in Paris’ “Cirque de Demain,” for his act which includes a modern mix of juggling, dance and acrobatics.

·         Jenny Vidbel is a third generation circus performer and animal trainer who grew up traveling with her grandparents and their animals in various circuses throughout the United States.  At the age of 12, she trained her first pony and presented him in her grandparents’ show, Vidbel’s “Olde Tyme Circus,” which she later owned and managed. Over the years, she has trained and presented a 12-pony drill team, a 2,000-pound draft horse, goats, llamas, a large variety of dogs, three beautiful Arabian horses, a Capybara and an African Porcupine.  For the Windy City Circus, Vidbel will bring her Miniature Champion White Horse act.

·         The Winn Family has been involved in daredevil stunts for nine generations. Originating in France and Germany, the Winns came to America in the early 1960s and raised five sons and a daughter to continue the family tradition. The Winn Family has entertained audiences in America for more than a half century.  They continue to amaze crowds all around the globe to this day with a full showcase of daredevilry at levels from the ground to sky-scraping high towers.

·         As a young man in Argentina, Jonatan Riquelme developed talents as a trampoline performer, trapeze artist, balancer and horseback rider. He began performing in 1999 and his act has brought him around the world dazzling audiences in places such as Brazil, Japan, Mexico, China, Puerto Rico as well as the United States and Canada.

Oh The Places We'll Go, Sarasota Florida Things To Do

This Christmas we're doing things a little different.  We are packing up the van and heading to warmer climates to spend a week on the beach with my family.  There will be 8 other adults sharing a beach house with my crazy kids.  I could easily spend the entire week sitting in the sand reading and playing online but that isn't exactly my boys speed.  So I've arranged a couple fun places for us to check out so the boys don't get bored and cause more trouble than usual.

The first place that has graciously offered to host my crew for some fun and learning is G.WIZ Science Museum in Sarasota, FL.  Check out their website by clicking on their logo or on Twitter or Facebook by clicking those icons.

We will also be visiting Mote Aquarium which was highly recommended by family members as a must see in the Sarasota, FL area. Visit them online by clicking the image below.
You can also find Mote Aquarium on Facebook and Twitter.
