Times are tough for a lot of people in our country right now. The economy has hurt a lot of people. But in our house we really try to keep the focus on how amazingly blessed we are. We have a roof over our head, heat in this cold season, running water and a whole slew of luxuries that most people in the world can't even begin to imagine!
As much as I can let myself get wrapped up in what we aren't able to do for our kids, they are really pretty darn spoiled. So we have to make a real effort to teach them what they really have. For us that means talking about that regularly with them. I know its an abstract concept for young kids to understand but I really don't think its ever too early. We also are working to instill an idea of a good work ethic in them already. They earn a decent allowance for kids their age WHEN they do the chores required to get it. But then they are required to take part of that and 'give' it. The choice is left up to them as to where they want to give it but they've consistently given it at church where their Sunday School classes donations go to sponsor a child. (They are also required to 'save' part of it for a MUCH later date.)
But Betty Crocker has developed a truly FUN way for kids to learn about giving...with Win One& Give One!
Kids know how much fun it is to win, but they also understand the importance of giving to others and want to help make a difference in the world. Now they have a chance to both win and give with Betty Crocker Fruit Flavored Snacks.
With specially marked boxes of kid favorites - including Fruit Roll-Ups, Gushers, Fruit by the Foot, and Stickerz & Shapes - your child could win one laptop to keep and Betty Crocker Fruit Flavored Snacks will donate another to a child in Africa.
Each day from now through May 30, 2010, one laptop prize will be awarded to a U.S. winner. For every laptop won, one laptop will be donated to an African child through One Laptop per Child, an organization that creates educational opportunities for the world´s poorest children by providing each child with a rugged, low-cost, low-power connected laptop with content and software designed for collaborative, joyful, self-empowered learning. For your chance to win, simply enter the unique online code printed on participating Betty Crocker Fruit Flavored Snack packages on www.WinOneGiveOne.com.So in the name of Winning and Giving, Betty Crocker has provided a chance for you to win two boxes of a variety of Betty Crocker Fruit Flavored Snacks AND make a $25 donation to One Laptop per Child on your behalf.

Please be sure that I have a way to contact you either with a email available on your blogger account or leave your email in your comment. If I can not contact you via email, or you do not respond with in approx. 48 hours to my email, I have to pick a new winner. And I really hate doing that!
My husband and I each make monthly donations to foreign missionaries in addition to our regular giving to our church. It makes us feel good that we are helping others find love, faith and hope in countries where there living conditions may not be as favorable as ours here in the states.

Last Christmas my kids and I went out with our church and passed out blankets to the homeless in the city we live in. I think it was great for my older kids to experience that some people are less fortunate than us.

We like to donate to the local food pantry. When the school has a food drive, the kids like to take items to school to contribute. Thanks!
