I just need ten minutes!

Have you ever said those words, "I just need ten minutes!"

As a full time working mom, I spend a lot of time away from my kids.  So I try to spend what's left of their waking hours with them as much as possible.  I typically use the time after they go to bed as my me time, watching my shows that aren't appropriate for them, playing my online games, sometimes even sneaking away for a moms night out.  Doing this all while they are in bed helps relieve the guilt of taking MORE time away from them.  But every now and then...you just have one of those days.  The kind of day you throw up your hands and simple have to take a break...RIGHT NOW!

Depending on the situation, I've been known to simply lock myself in the bathroom with a book or something of the like and just taken my 10 minutes that way.  Since the kids are usually just on the other side of the door, usually chatting away, sometimes pounding on the door, I know they're safe but at least I have a couple square feet of personal space and if I try REALLY hard I might be able to take a few breaths and get my composure back.

But if the second string (my husband) is home, sometimes I take my time out, I mean my 10 minutes by going to the store.  In our house there's always SOMETHING we could use, milk, juice, diapers, wipes, garbage bags etc so I just take a quick trip to the store and it's like I leave the stress along with my money with the cashier and I head back home refreshed.  Since becoming a mom, especially as we've added to our family and our small budget has been stretched even father my retail therapy has become less about fun purchases and more about practical things.  But somehow, just the walk around the store seems to really make a difference.

So, tell me how do you take ten minute for YOURSELF??

Sprint has just launched Gaming on the Now Network, bringing you the first wireless 4G network from a national carrier. Sprint and JuiceBoxJungle have sponsored me to write about what "ten minutes" a day means to me.

  1. Lisa,

I'm reading this with my mouth agape. FT working mom with 3 boys is...is...well, it's amazing. I was a FT working mom after my first was born, I can only imagine what you're under. Kudos, girl. Leaving the house (like you) is a really good way for me to have 10 or 20 alone. Also, I love to read, so after the boys are asleep I like to crawl into bed and read. Unless hubbie wants to spend time, although he's always willing to have alone time for PS2. ;)

  2. I'm in your boat - I try to spend as much quality time with my daughter after work and on weekends but sometimes I NEED a moment. I can't imagine 3 boys! Usually on one Saturday a month my hubby will take Lily to one of the Home Depot or Lowes kids building projects so I can just take a bath...without a toddler climbing in behind me :)

    TGIF!
