New Medical Reference App

Although I can regularly be foudn telling people NOT to google systmoms because you can easily scare the crap out of yourself.  BUT I've also learned that sometimes it IS nice to get some answers without leaving your couch.  As I shared yesterday I made my own trip to the ER in this last week and I pondered a moment as to which hospital I'd go to.  One is closer but has notoriously long wait times, the other is an extra half hour drive but is usually a very short wait.  I went with the short wait and thankfully my friend/driver was happy to oblige.  But if I'd had this app then I could have ooked up more info on both of their wait times.  And had I checked this app out the night I hurt myself I MAY have visited the ER that night instead of putting it off...but that's just a maybe...

If a medical reference app sounds like something you'd use you'll be happy to here that its available for iPhones, Android and Palm and the Blackberry app is in the works now.

More info:

iTriage is a medical reference application for Smartphones, that was created by Healthagen. iTriage is currently available on the iPhone and iPod Touch, Android, and Palm app. The application lets you search and browse hundreds of symptoms, diseases, and procedures and provides useful descriptions of the conditions, treatments, and medical tests, the app also offers support links to your insurer’s advice line.

In addition, iTriage can use the iPhone’s GPS to help you find nearby pharmacies, hospitals, and other treatment centers. In some states it gives ER wait times so you can choose which one to go to.
Healthcare in Your Hand
iTriage—the first healthcare information software product introduced by Healthagen, LLC is the brainchild of two emergency room physicians. After seeing a growing need for patients to have more actionable healthcare information in their hands, Drs. Peter Hudson and Wayne Guerra introduced iTriage to give healthcare consumers crucial information in acute care settings:
  • Information on more than 300 symptoms, 1000 diseases and 350 medical procedure
  • A nationwide directory of hospitals, urgent cares, retail clinics, pharmacies and physicians
  • Turn-by-turn facility directions from GPS, IP address or zip code locations
  • Nurse advice lines
  • Detailed quality reports from HealthGrades on hospitals and physicians
  • Help negotiating medical bills through an iTriage partnership with one of the most respected claims adjudication organizations
  • Emergency Room Wait Times for hospitals in select parts of the country
