Hasbro's Connect 4 Fun on the Run Review and Giveaway CLOSED

Play a round of your CONNECT 4 game anytime, anywhere with this awesome set! The convenient, self-contained storage case doubles as the game grid, so you can set it up and start playing wherever you are. Drop your checkers into the grid to try to connect four vertically, diagonally or horizontally but watch out - your opponent is going to try to block your moves and you’ve got to try to block his! Can you connect your checkers before your opponent? Start droppin’ and blockin’ to try! Includes playing grid with trays, 21 yellow checkers, 21 red checkers and instructions. For 2 players. Ages 6 and up.

We play a lot of games in our house and one of our favorites is Connect 4 so when we had the chance to check out the new Connect 4 Fun on The Run, we were thrilled.  It's the same game you've always loved but now with a smaller design that is perfect for taking with you when you're on the go.  I was skeptical about how they could really make Connect 4 travel friendly, but I think they did a great job.  I'm not sure it'd be ideal for playing in the car because you still risk losing the pieces when you finish a game and let the pieces out if you hit a bump at the wrong moment.  But for us is will be going into the car for the many hours we will be spending at the baseball field this summer.

When I looked at the creative way they were able to contain the game pieces I wasn't sure if my youngest, who is well below the recommended age but regularly plays the regular version, would be able to get the pieces out it himself.  But after showing him once how to do it, he was easily able to play many games with his brother.  And he even won a few...with a little help from mama.
The pieces go into a compartment with a snap shut top and then can be pulled out he bottom when you need a piece.  Easy for fingers of all sizes to manage.

If you haven't played Connect 4 with your kids, it really is a great game.  We start playing Tic-Tac-To early with our kids while out to eat etc so they have caught on to the concept of having to pay attention to your plan to win but also blocking your opponent but Connect 4 gives so many more options, it's really fun for me to watch the boys play.  Not that there aren't ever any tears when they don't win.  But I think this is even more reason to encourage them to play games and learn good sportsmanship.

Because this is being sold as Fun on the Run, I decided we couldn't properly review it without fully testing out how secure the pieces would be for travel.  So I handed it over to a very energetic 3 year old to see if he could shake the pieces out.  Admittedly they DID eventually pop out (my husband wasn't so thrilled with my plan here) but it took awhile and some effort so I think it's safe to say that with NORMAL usage and bumping around while you're on the go, the pieces are pretty secure.  But you should still watch this, just cuz it's funny.
