I have to say I was shocked when it actually sank in that this was a 70th anniversary release. For some reason I never realized it was an 'old' movie when I watched it over and over as a child. But I guess that is the sign of a truly timeless movie. And this week, 70 years later I shared Dumbo on Blu-ray with my kids. The older boys had seen it before but Bryan hadn't. It was great watching him react to the movie. From the very beginning he was hooked, even getting said for Dumbo's mom as the train pulled away and she still didn't have a baby when all the other animals did. To giggles when Dumbo and Timothy get drunk and blow bubbles. It is of course the same classic story that generations have loved. But I found that the Blu-ray version was noticeably brighter than older versions. But even with it's bright, clear picture quality, I found the soulless black eyes of the pink elephant on parade creepy. Of course my boys loved them! The boys (all three of them) actually sat quietly and intently for the entire movie and couldn't believe it was 'over already' when it was done!
