My boys loved this installment of the Ice Age series.  It had some great new characters and had a bit of a Pirates meets Ice Age feel.  Don't worry though, all your old favorites are still there too.  Get ready to set a drift with all your friends from Ice Age, just try not to be sucked in by the sirens!  We really enjoyed this latest installment in the Ice Age collection.  

Which of the prehistoric creatures is YOUR favorite?  I'm partial to Manny and Ellie where as the boys, especially Bryan LOVE Scrat and his crazy acorn obsession!

Watching Men In Black 3 with My 3 on Vudu.com #CBias #SeeMIB3

You'll remember that a couple weeks ago I pre-purchased Men In Black 3 at Walmart.  Having done this meant that it was available for us to watch on Vudu.com on November 16th.  But thanks to my kids behavior as of late, they'd been cut off of TV and movies for several weeks.  So we didn't get to watch it until this weekend. 

It was super easy to use Vudu.com.  I'd signed up on the site when I made the purchase.  So to watch MIB3 all I had to was log in.  I found MIB3 in the 'my videos' tab and had the option to either watch or download it.  I originally clicked on 'watch' but quickly saw some buffering.  So I went back and downloaded the movie cuz there is nothing worse than buffering in the middle of an action movie.  It did take a considerable amount of time to download.  The boys weren't very patient about it but now it's there for as many times as they want to watch it and ready to go.  And there was absolutely no glitching or buffering. 

We watched it on my laptop because I couldn't figure out how to hook anything up to the TV.  So the picture quality wasn't like my HD TV, it was just as good as if I watched a DVD on my laptop. 

As for the movie, the boys loved it.  Even with my less than ideal set up for watching the movie on my laptop, the boys never moved from their spots.  Action movies aren't really my thing but I saw the original MIB and couldn't help but love it because of the Will Smith.  I thought this movie was different, more of an emotional plot than I remember the original one being (but it HAS been a long time and I've had three kids since I've seen it).  But the best part of the movie for me was the reaction my boys had at the end.  I can't really say what they said because it'd be a big spoiler.  But it was awesome to see them totally get the deeper meaning of things and that they were really getting it.

Can't wait to watch Men In Black 3 again when we get our Blu-ray in the next week.

I'm not going to lie. I was a little nervous about this process. I've pre-order movies before and usually you put down a deposit and simply guarantee you will have a copy when you go it to buy it when it's released.  But this was super easy.  The only snag I hit was when the first store I went didn't have it our for sale and when I asked, they told me it wasn't going to be available for at least a week.  But you shouldn't have any problems finding it at your local Walmart.  When I visited a second store I easily found it in the New Releases section.  It felt a little weird paying for a movie that wasn't actually in the box.  

But I did just that.  The I took it home and followed the easy steps.

I went online to vudu.com/mib3 and put in the redemption code found in the white area on the left side of the instruction 'disk.'  It took just a minute, literally to set up.  You'll just need an email address and phone number to create your account.  And you will enter your shipping address for the physical shipment of your Blu-Ray/DVD gift pack.

Then you'll either need to create a UltraViolet account, or link your existing account.  I already had a UV account so it literally took a second to link.

That's it, less than two minutes and I'm all set up to watch my digital copy of Men In Black on Vudu.com when it's available on 11/16/12.

 And we'll get the physical Blu-Ray and DVD around 11/30/12.

You laughed, you cried, you ate Reese's Pieces! Can you believe it's been thirty years? I hate to even admit I saw this movie in the theater.  I'm far too young to have be celebrating 30th anniversaries of anything! (Hey, a girl can pretend.)  You loved it then, and you'll still love it now.  I have to admit my kids weren't as into it as I was.  But I may have used more than a tissue or two to get through this 80s classic.  While some of the special effects will give this great film a slightly dated look, and of course no matter how adorable Drew Barrymore was you'll still be in taken back by the fabulous 80's clothing styles, this movie still holds many timeless memories and lessons. 

So pop some popcorn, grab a bag of Reese's Pieces and pop E.T. in the Blu-Ray player tonight.  Oh don't forget the Kleenex.

Have you watched Jake and the Never Land Pirates yet?  I have to admit that since I work during the week and we are really never home much anymore, I haven't seen kids TV in quite a while.  I'm totally not up to date on my preschool TV happenings.  But Friday night I whipped out the DVD and became the coolest mom ever as far as my four year old was concerned.  He immediately asked "YOU GO JAKE SAVES BUCKY?"  Since he can't read, I had to ask, how did you know that's what it was.  To which he didn't so much reply and start singing "Jake saves Bucky" and dancing around the living room.  He stayed glued to the TV for over two hours watching his new BFF Jake and would get even more excited when Peter Pan would show up too.  I really liked what I saw too.  It was fun to watch but also had some educational and moral value.  It's always nice to learn that you approve of something they've already fallen in love with!

Pre-Order Rock Of Ages On Blu-ray

I promise you will NOT be sorry.  If you are a child of the 80s this is a must see movie.  Now mind you, this isn't a life altering, award winning movie.  It's not even the best acting you'll see this year (or maybe even today) but it will take you back, sing along and laugh your ass off.

Rock of Ages has been on Broadway for quite a while and I really wanted to see if when it was in Chicago.  The songs in it are like the soundtrack to my childhood.  But when it was announced that it would be a film with Tom Cruise as the hell raising rock star, I KNEW I couldn't miss it.  I don't go to the theater to see a movie often, and even less so without the kids.  But I was dying to see the long haired Cruise sing some 80 monster ballads!  And I was not disappointed.  Admittedly the singing isn't Broadway quality...these are Hollywood actors, but I thought it was enjoyable.  And did I mention, it is FUNNY.  I've never been a huge Russel Brandt fan but I LOVED him in this movie.  With a collection of literally HUNDREDS of DVD's and Blu-Ray Discs there are very few movies for ME.  This is one I had to have so I can watch it over and over.  


Do note that this is NOT a family friendly movie.  It is raunchy and hilarious.  If you are easily offended, it may not be for you and its definitely not for the kids!

Avengers is out on DVD Today

I'm ordering Avengers (W/Dvd) Blu-ray Disc today. How about you?

I'm not really a super hero girl but we went to see this on a whim at the drive in and I enjoyed it.  There definitely some scenes that made me giggle.  And the special effects are pretty amazing.  

Bryan will be excited to watch it again as he didn't quit make it through the whole movie at the drive in.

Want to Be the Fairest Of Them All?

                                             

In Mirror Mirror, Queen Clementianna suffers from physical insecurity and takes it upon herself to conjure up different potions to erase the “crinkles” on her face.  Here are some different homemade beauty remedies that you can find in your own kitchen cabinet to treat yourself at the comfort of your own home, such as using grapes for those darn wrinkles, green tea for puffy eyes,  and a mayonnaise/ banana mix treatment for your hair. 

                                                                                                 

                                                                Reduce Those Evil Wrinkles

The queen hated her “crinkles” so she turned to home remedies to help minimize them. We suggest cutting seedless grapes, then crushing them to apply to face and neck. Repeat daily. The antioxidant properties of the grapes remove pesky ‘crinkles!’

             Snow White Eyes

Green tea contains antioxidants and placing a damp green tea under each eye can sooth tired eyes and reduce bags and dark circles. Adding cucumber slices or grated potatoes over closed eyes will also reduce puffy-looking skin. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and poof, magically, clear and whiter eyes!

                   Whiter Teeth

For a quick and easy way to brighten your smile, mash a few strawberries in a bowl and add ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Coat teeth with the mix and leave for five minutes. The malic acid acts as an astringent and removes stains. Be wise not too use too often (an evil queen trait) because regular use could damage your tooth enamel. Brush again with normal toothpaste to remove the mix. Happy smiles!

                                     Shiny Hair

To get Snow White’s shiny and smooth hair, condition your hair by heating a ½ cup of mayonnaise and a mushed banana in the microwave for about 10 seconds. Apply to dry hair and cover with a plastic bag. Leave the mixture on your hair for 20 minutes. Remove the plastic bag and rinse your hair with warm water then shampoo as normal.

                                                                               Cleansing

Skimmed milk powder makes a great face wash as it gently exfoliates your skin and leaves it soft. This is suitable for all skin types and is likely Snow White’s favorite cleansing method!

Ok, seriously I don't think I've ever been so happy to have something come out on DVD.  No, I'm NOT crazy!  You see my four year old has a serious Power Rangers addiction.  We have been recording the current serious Power Rangers Samaria on the DVR so he could watch them anytime he wants.  But then my little brother brought over some Might Morphin Power Rangers from when HE was little.  Bryan was IN LOVE.  But these were single episode VHS tapes.  The only place we have a VCR is in my bedroom.  Which is fine, Power Rangers is a great way to get a few more minutes of sleep on a weekend.  But seriously 26 minute episodes...just as I fall back to sleep after a certain someone asks me a hundred times who my favorite Power Ranger is, I'm being thumped on to change the tapes.  It's like medieval torture in this day and age to have to get up out of bed, rewind a tape and change movies! Yes, I'm kidding...sort of.  But I'm serious enough to be totally excited to get a whole season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for my little Ranger to watch while I cut a few extra Z's on a Saturday morning!

The Farrelly Bros. My Thoughts:

I must not have been paying attention to the previews very well because I totally thought this was a total chick flick. And yes the main plot was around the love triangle but there was some definite action. When I started this movie I almost thought I'd put in the wrong thing!  It's obviously not a hard core action movie just for the guys but I think its a good blend that creates a bit of a compromise between action and romantic comedy!  I think the three main characters are terrific but honestly, Chelsey Handler is my favorite. I LOVED her character.  Especially when she's pretty much shouting "YES! Sex tie breaker..." in the middle of a kids play-land!  I can't say I've ever found myself in a true love triangle but the movie does well to make it fairly believable. Ok, well as believable as being in a love triangle with two CIA agents who bug your house to get a leg up on their competition, who happens to be their best friend can be.  Overall, I thought it was a fun watch  and would recommend it!

MIRROR MIRROR on Blu-ray and DVD June 26

As you may recall our family went to see a preview of Mirror Mirror downtown Chicago.  My whole family enjoyed the movie and before we even left the theater I got requests to get it on DVD when it came out.  My boys will be thrilled to hear that it won't be much longer....

We Bought a Zoo, Movie Review

As a huge Matt Damon fan for a bazillion years, this could have been called We bought a new broom, and I'd have been up for watching it.  Seriously, Good Will Hunting...one of the best movies ever! I really didn't think I could be anymore in love with Matt Damon.  But him, as a dad. A single dad. A single, widower dad. Really? How can you not want to crawl through the screen and just hug him?
Yes, I know, it's a part.  He IS a dad in real life, but he has a gorgeous wife. Blah blah blah. Maybe I'm biased but I think he's a fabulous actor that truly makes me fall in love with his characters!

We watched this movie as a family and my youngest (4) didn't stay interested too long.  But the older two enjoyed it once they'd bought the zoo.  But I loved the whole thing.  It is sort of a romantic sweet story, not the type of stuff my kids usually go for.  There are funny parts and a couple suspenseful parts with the animals.  It is definitely one I will personally watch again, but probably without the kids, at least for now.

Real Steel, featuring Hugh Jackman on DVD Blu-Ray TODAY

When Real Steel came out, there was no question that my boys would want to see it.  Fighting AND robots, or even better FIGHTING ROBOTS!?!?! It's like every boys dream come true.  Even the 'boys' who've grown up a bit now will feel a little nostalgic while watching these real live rock em sock em robots duke it out.  We watched this movie last weekend and it was one the entire family really enjoyed. The plot was a little different than what I had picked up from the previews and it was actually an even sweeter story than I thought it would be.  But there was still a TON of action that kept the boys riveted to the TV the entire time!  I DO need to say that there is a good deal of cursing, and a bulk of it happens right at the beginning.  We don't really restrict viewing based on language so I don't honestly usually pay much attention, but it was enough that my 8 year old pointed it out to me.  I personally wouldn't let it stop me from allowing my kids to watch the movie but if it is an issue for you, please look into it before letting your kids watch.  (I don't want anyone being mad at me.)  I loved that this movie had a David versus Goliath feel but also had more realistic end than what you would typically expect in a family movie.  For any parent who's ever tried to teach their child that it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game, THIS movie is for you!!

FUN FACTS

§         “Real Steel” is set in the near future, where robots have replaced boxers in the ring, and is directed by Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum,” “Date Night”).

§         “Real Steel” stars Hugh Jackman (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” “The Prestige”) as Charlie Kenton, a financially strapped, risk-taking former boxer who now makes his living on an underworld robot boxing circuit, operating the metal pugilists that made his human profession obsolete.

§         The robots each have a distinctive look, personality and color scheme and range in size from 7’6” to 8’5” in height. Based on human form, they each have two legs, two arms, a torso and a head—with the exception of a two-headed bot aptly named “Twin Cities.”

§         In addition to their distinctive personas, every robot has a specific sound personality. When a robot lands a punch there’s a sound specific to his skeletal material, his mechanisms, his bulk and his mass and there’s also an aura sound so that just merely by being turned on every robot has a whir or a whoosh or an engine hum or the sound or a computer.

§         Evangeline Lilly (“Lost”), who plays Bailey, never saw herself making a boxing film, but when she read the heartfelt script she was won over.

§         Toronto-native Dakota Goyo was chosen from thousands of 10-year-old boys who auditioned for the role of Max, Hugh Jackman’s on-screen son, as part of an international casting search.

§         Filming the robot boxing scenes was done with both motion-capture technology and practical-built, full-scale robots. The motion-capture elements were performed and shot months earlier on a stage in Los Angeles. Fighters were put in the ring wearing data-capturing jumpsuits and as they fought, their motions were converted into robot avatars in the computer and instantaneously appeared on the monitors on set. Then, during principal photography, the filmmakers lined up their cameras on an empty ring and the motion-capture data streamed through their cameras, allowing them to watch and frame the robot fighting in the ring in real time.

§         Sugar Ray Leonard was hired by the filmmakers to serve as the film’s boxing consultant and to train Hugh Jackman for his appearance in the ring.

§         “Real Steel” costume designer Marlene Stewart created a wardrobe for Hugh Jackman’s character Charlie that was inspired by looks from the 1960s, drawing from rugged Americana styles.  Even his sunglasses are retro.

§         In “Real Steel” there is a clear delineation between the two worlds of robot boxing. There is the official league (the WRB); it’s corporate sponsored, with big money, sanctioned venues and strict rules. Then there is the underworld, which has unsanctioned venues, with no rules, no restrictions—the robots fight to the death.

Introducing….THE BOXER BOTS!

Ambush is a low-rent circuit bot. The best fight that Charlie can arrange for Ambush is literally against a piece of livestock.

Atom may not be in the biggest or the flashiest bot in the ring, but he is the most extraordinary. He is the "hero" robot.

Colored in gold and red, Midas sports a mohawk. He's a brawler. He follows no rules. He'll use whatever means necessary to win a fight.

Noisy Boy is a former league bot. When he started losing fights, he was exiled to doing boxing exhibitions in South America and Asia. He's now back, but he's no longer league caliber, so he's fighting in underworld venues.

With a block-shaped upper body, Twin Cities is a vicious two-headed robot!

Zeus is the champ of the WRB. He is enormous. He is described as "The Death Star." He is painted reflected black. He has piston-programmed punch mechanisms in his arms. Not only has Zeus never been beaten, but also, no other robot has even survived beyond the first round with him.
