Have You Tried Arby’s® Grand Turkey Club Sandwich? #craveability

The leaves are changing, the temperature is dropping and you may be craving some of the best foods of fall, like freshly carved turkey, pumpkin pie, or a spiced cider.  No need to wait for the holidays to roll around, you can have a delicious hot Grand Turkey Club at Arby’s®.  Arby’s is “slicing up freshness” with the new Grand Turkey Club.  It’s served on a toasted Harvest Wheat bun with turkey sliced fresh in-store, served hot with melted Swiss cheese, pepper bacon, leaf lettuce, tomato and mayo. This is more than just a sandwich. The new Grand Turkey Club has true “craveability!”  Learn more here.
Thinly sliced oven-roasted turkey piled high on a toasted sesame seed bun and served hot. Try it with your choice of honey mustard, mayo or ranch. Makes your mouth water, doesn’t it? Just imagine what it’s like to actually eat it.

Thinly sliced oven-roasted turkey topped with cheddar cheese sauce and zesty Red Ranch sauce on a toasted onion roll and served hot. Take one bite and you’ll know why this new “classic” will be an instant legend.

Served hot on a toasted Harvest Wheat bun with sliced roast turkey, melted Swiss cheese, pepper bacon, leaf lettuce, tomato and mayo, the Grand Turkey Club tastes like it’s more than a sandwich. We like to think of it as a savory, taste bud tingling masterpiece.

As a lifelong fan of Arby's it doesn't take much to convince me to try their new menu items.  While I'll always love a regular roast beef sandwich, they have made me fall in love with a ton of various other menu items like their loaded potato bites and French Dip Sub.  When I heard they now had Turkey Roasters, I was definitely in to try one.  So one day this week I headed to the closest Arby's around on my lunch hour.  I was surprised by an unusually long line even though I was on the early side for lunch...maybe everyone else was craving turkey too!  But the line moved quickly and I was about to order my Turkey Classic quickly.  (In case you forget which turkey creation you were craving, my Arby's had great signage in the drive thru with info.)

I grabbed my Turkey Classic and headed back to my office.  Even though it took almost 15 minutes to get back, it was still nice and warm.

Because I couldn't decide what to put on it I went plain.  It was really good without anything else on it but I could see it with ranch, BBQ, mayo, mustard or I was even thinking a little hummus would have been good on it.
I loved the Turkey Classic. It has that very comforting turkey taste.  Almost like I should have had a side of mashed potatoes to go with it.  Next time I think I'll try the Grand Turkey Club (no tomato though).  I only went with Classic because I couldn't tell what all came on the Club and I can't eat mustard and I could have asked but the sound quality of the drive thru was horrible so I just went safe instead.  But I can only image that a little peppercorn bacon would make the this turkey creation even better!!!

In an effort to minimize my calories for lunch, I just grabbed a sandwich Arby's also has delicious sides like loaded potato bites (not available at all locations though), potato cakes, mozzarella sticks and curly fries.  And of course don't forget their yummy shakes and desserts.  And don't forget the kids, they can now get a Turkey and Cheese in their kids meal.

Applebee's, Where Parents AND Kids LiveWell

I have been a fan of Applebee's for a long time, partly because they have good food and partly because they are the only nonfast food place in our town. (Other places take 25 or so minutes to get to.)  I have long been in love with Applebee's pastas and other calorie filled but delicious dishes.  But since starting Weight Watchers I have learned that I also love their healthier dishes as well.  This past weekend we visited and I tried their new Weight Watchers meal (12points) Creamy Parmesan Chicken.  Although I must admit I didn't eat the spinach and pulled out the large chunks of mushroom (like the taste, hate the texture), this was a delicious and filling meal!

But what makes me even happier is that they are also working on healthier options for kids.  They have added a Grilled Chicken Sandwich to their kids menu and paired with their steamed broccoli (which they've had for awhile) your kids can eat healthier too.  As you can see my son went with fries, but he actually typically chooses the broccoli or applesauce.  He didn't finish his sandwich so I tried a little of it and it was very good.  The chicken was juicy and tender.

Applebee’s® Joins Kids LiveWellSM
World’s Largest Casual Dining Chain Provides Healthful Menu Options for the Whole Family
Applebee's is expanding its more healthful menu choices to its kids menu so the whole family can dine out and enjoy better-for-you options. The world’s largest casual dining chain today announced it joined Kids LiveWell, a program that helps parents and kids make more healthful menu selections when eating out.
Applebee’s Kids LiveWell-endorsed entrée is a grilled chicken sandwich with steamed broccoli and 1 percent milk or apple juice. Kids also can enjoy orange juice and a side of applesauce. In addition, Applebee’s offers kids a nutritious mac-and-cheese option.
Kids LiveWell items must meet qualifying nutritional standards from leading health organizations, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The program was started by the National Restaurant Association and Healthy Dining.
“Applebee’s serves nearly 1 million guests a day – including many families with children – at our nearly 1,900 neighborhood locations across the country,” said Jessica James, Applebee’s executive chef. “Our new grilled chicken sandwich for kids lets the entire family eat out while keeping their calories and portions in check. We’re leading the casual dining industry with lower calorie menu options and removing the guilt from dining out.”
Since 2004, Applebee’s has been the only restaurant chain to offer Weight Watchers-endorsed entrées. In addition, Applebee’s has offered its Under 550 Calories menu for the past three years.

I promise he wasn't as miserable as he looks, he is just too cool to appreciate his mom snapping photos of him eating out in public!

Have you tried any of Applebee's Weight Watchers endorsed entrees, Under 550 Calorie selections or the new Kids LiveWell endorsed entree? Which is YOUR favorite?

I received a complimentary Applebee's eGift Card to help cover the cost of our delicious and healthier meal. All opinions expressed are my own honest, personal feedback.

Dinner Downtown: Markethouse Chicago

Last weekend, I headed downtown to meet my college roommate who was in town for a conference for dinner.  We haven't seen each other since my wedding (which just happens to be exactly 8 years ago this week) so of course the company was fabulous.  But because of my late arrival (that's a whole other post for another time) we didn't have time to venture out to find a place to eat that I was familiar with. So instead we opted for the restuarant in her hotel.

We were a little nervous that we were under dressed for Markethouse, but once we were brave enough to step in we saw that while the decor of the resturant is gorgeous the overall feel was comfortable and we fit right in.

We quickly learned from our waiter that Markhouse prides its self on providing delicious sustainable food, using local farmers and even has its own rooftop garden.

Much of the menu was a little fancier than my taste but they did have a burger and mac n' cheese. But not the kind of burger or mac n cheese I make at home. This stuff was awesome and while the prices were rather downtown looking on the menu, we really did get a ton of food.  Since they listed the entrees and sides separately and there was no mention of fries, I ordered a 'side' of mac n cheese.  The waiter pointed out that it was 'healthy' portion and suggested we share it (we both ordered a side).  But we didn't heed his warning, so I was stuffed when we left and I actually could not eat everything, which is a rare occasion for me when dining out.  And everything tasted amazing!!
10 oz Grilled Black Angus Burger: over a half pound of savory Black Angus beef, stuffed with BBQ braised short ribs, roasted peppers, onions and topped with succulent, melted Carr Valley aged white cheddar

Mac & Cheese Gratin: apple wood smoked bacon; 7 year aged Carr Valley white cheddar
I don't know how I'll ever manage to eat Kraft mac n cheese again!  This was so yummy and even the 'petite' portion probably could have been a meal and actually left me with room to even LOOK at the dessert menu!

Disclosure: I paid for this meal and have not been compensated in anyway.

Arby's Angus Cool Deli sandwich wrap Review and Giveaway CLOSED

Inspired by classic sandwich shop subs, the Angus Cool Deli sandwich is lean Angus Beef served cool. Topped with crisp lettuce, tomato, red onion, Swiss cheese, mayonnaise, dressed in vinaigrette and popping with banana peppers and pickles.

I am a huge Arby's fan. I LOVE the hot roast beef and it was a sad sad day for me when the store just a couple blocks from my office closed its doors.  But I still stop in whenever I'm out and about near an Arby's.  My typical order is a roast beef (with plenty of Arby's sauce) and some loaded potato bites.

I wasn't so such about a cold sandwich from Arby's but I took a few minutes this week at lunch and took off to my next closest store.  I got the Angus Cool Deli sandwich, but minus some of the extras. My sandwich was just beef, lettuce and mayo and dressing. But it was really good.  I would compare this sandwich to the other cold sub place that promises freaky fast delivery.  It will definitely be something I order from them now.  But as you can see I probably won't be deviating from my loaded potato bites anytime soon. They are just too good.  And they made a tastey contrast to the cold sub option!!!

Chili's Triple Dipper - Good Things Come In 3's Review and Giveaway

My family and I have been Chili's fans for a long time.  It's one of those places where there is something there that everyone in the family really enjoys and the service is always fabulous.
I also love it for lunch during the week. They have great lunch specials and they also have quick service even during the busy lunch rush so you can have a great lunch without being late getting back to work.
But recently it seems Chili's has really been working hard to outdo even themselves.  There have been many great promotions lately but I am LOVING this latest one, Chili's Triple Dipper.  If you're like me you've looked at a menu and thought if only I could have this with this combo instead, it'd be perfect.  Well with the new Triple Dipper Good Things REALLY DO Come in 3's because you can chose from TEN different appetizers for some dippin goodness!  If you can't find 3 things you LOVE from these choices, you just aren't hungry!
TRIPLE DIPPER™

Thanks to Chili's I had the chance to head out to our nearest location to check out the Triple Dipper myself.  Even with THREE choices, it was hard to narrow it down from all the delicious looking choices (I LOVE photo menus).  Because sharing the Triple Dipper 5 ways didn't sound like fun to me, I chose to have the appetizer sampler, as my meal and I'm so glad I did.  For an appetizer for all of us, we stuck with our tried and true favorite of chips and salsa.  Seriously if you haven't had their chips and salsa, you NEED to try them because they are my favorite chips in the whole world.  AND they are bottomless (and if you ask nicely they'll even send you home with some).
As for the Triple Dipper, their equation of 3 appetizers+ 3 dips= 1 happy you.  Totally true.  I loved every bite of mine.  The boneless buffalo wings were full of kick!  The loaded potato skins were amazing.  I love skins, but sometimes they can get a little overly dry, but these were perfect.  And while I think it's kind of hard to go wrong with Fried Cheese (yeah yeah my arteries hate me but I LOVE it), these were really good and not overly greasy.  Overall it made for the perfect combination.  Now the only problem I have is wanting to go back to try 3 more choices!!!
The Trippler Dipper Menu
one of the options I HAD to get. They were DELICIOUS!

I chose to have the Trippler Dipper as my meal.  Everything about it was amazing.  I had loaded potato skins, boneless buffalo wins and fried cheese.  When it came there MIGHT have been some jealous looks!
And because Chili's IS one of our whole families favorite places, I did take the whole crew.  But these were the only ones feeling photogenic.
We couldn't visit Chili's without getting chips and salsa because they seriously have my favorite chips in the world!!

And this monster of a burger, is what my husband decided to try. It was huge, but he did manage to clean his plate, as did everyone else!! And that says a lot in my book!

We were left looking for Ashton!

You may recall me writing about how we were 'hitting the town' last week.  And then I posted that we'd "been had" and here's the full story of our evening.

So after getting ourselves dolled up, helping Bryan adjust to our super sweet sitter (he has VERY little experience with sitters but she is awesome) and being able to have some peace in knowing if all else failed, "Papa" would arrive soon with dinner to help with Bryan, we headed to the city.  We left just less than 2 hours before we were to be there and made it JUST on time.
It was a beautiful place.  I felt like such a grown up, out to dinner, in the city, at a place with valet parking no less.

Then I saw this.  Yup, the whole place just for our dinner!
We were greeted by some lovely ladies from MyBlogSpark, where I received a small gift to help with out expenses in getting there.  And then we were asked to sign a waiver for a video crew they had on site....yeah, ok, I'll sign anything!    This probably should have been my first clue that something was going on besides a simply appreciation dinner...but who was I to question!

We were then seated a lovely table and introduced to a wonderful waiter.  He reviewd our menu for the evening and explained that everything had been previously selected for us, except the main entree.
Here is our menu:

We started with soup, which I bravely tried but fully expected to hate.  But I LOVED it!!
Ok, Ben Pao, had caught my attention.

Then the appetizers arrived.
In addition to these, we had the lettuce wraps which I'd also never had but thoroughly enjoyed!!
We pretty much skipped all the sauces but loved everything else.

In addition to some great new food, I enjoyed something else, I'd all but forgotten existed....time alone, with my husband.  We had a great time without any whiney or complaining.  (Well, there was no complaining IN the restuarant, there MAY have been some on the way there.)

And for our main course, Tom picked Sweet and Sour Chicken, which is especially odd since he doesn't eat chicken, like ever, but he usually eats sweet and sour pork when I drag him out for Chinese food.  And he LOVED it.  He MADE me try it, but I'm simply not a sweet and sour kind of girl.

I had my usual fave of Beef and Brocoli.  It was delicious.

I was stuffed!
But then they brought dessert.  This is the lemon ginger cheesecake.  Normally, I wouldn't order something lemon ginger, but MAN would I have missed out.  It was AMAZING!
And if that weren't enough...Chocolate Spring Rolls.  They were warm and crunchy and DELICIOUS! Don't ask how many I ate, I won't tell!!  Let's just say Tom was too full to save me from myself by eating any of them!

And then, just when I thought I would literally explode, even through my multiple layers of restricting undergarments, they brought us fortune cookies.
For fear of explosion, I didn't open mine....until the camera crew interviewed the people at the table behind us, asking if they'd been fooled.  Hmmmm?? Wait, what did we miss, we wondered.

Then they approached another table and asked if they could film them opening their fortune cookies.
"It's IN the cookie!!" I told Tom, as I began to open mine.
And this is what we found...

So, thanks to Ben Pao and Wanchai Ferry, we were totally punked!

Here's me...being me, wanting to get out of being filmed.

And both of us, yup, we've been Punked! We were totally clueless.

And here is the sneaky team from MyBlogSpark!
Thank you ladies for a very memorable night!

And Tom wasn't as camera shy as I was so maybe he'll be a new commercial from Wanchai Ferry.
For now though, you can check out their current commercial...
Here are the entrees we tried:

And a couple other choices I would love to try...
